Le Homme Dieu chain, June 7th 2008

My son A.J. and I made the trip up to Alexandria,MN. on Fri. June 6th so we could get some pre-fishing in, I know one day is not nearly enough time but that is all I could do. We got to the lake and it was really windy and looked like it was going to storm before launching the boat I sat and was deciding what to do wait it out or tuff it out well I realized I was really tired from getting up really early and driving two hours so I wimped out and went to my uncle's cabin on lake Osakis about twenty minutes away, this is were we are staying the weekend.

After about a three hour nap I got up and felt refreshed bout it was still crappy out and with gas prices were there at I figured I would just get the boat in order and all my tackle set up for the tournament tomorrow. The registration and meeting is at Bugaboo bay, a restaurant on the chain of lakes. We met my buddy Brian Tonn there and had a couple of beers and sat through the meeting and the boat draw. I was drawn boat 39 out of only 51 boats and was paired with John Peterson. A.J. was paired up with Bob Perkins which is great because he won this exact tournament last year and said he was on fish. They were boat 16. Later on I found out that John was Bob's cousin so that was a little weird.

We made our way back to the cabin and watched a movie then turned in for the night. The alarm went off bright and early(God I hate mornings) and jumped into the Dodge Ram and made are way to the lake and launched the boat. Tthe morning was overcast but the wind was calm and it was warm. My game plan was to fish fast and cover water with a Rattle Trap and get a limit as fast as possible and then slow down and work for some bigger fish. The plan went perfect up till the bigger fish part... John and I caught a lot of fish but no big ones. I did not even have a nice one on to lose like what usually happens.

The day went way too fast but that must be because John and I had a really good time fishing together. Now we are back at the weigh in and I ended up in 35th place for the 4th Weekend series in a row I am getting frustrated with the low finishes but I don't have anything to blame but my lack of pre-fishing. A.J. did not fair much better. A co-angler can weigh 3 fish in, he only had 2 fish that weighed 2.65 for 40th place, and Bob didn't have a good tournament either he had 5 fish for 5.58 and 48th place. John came in 25th on the co/angler side. My buddy Brian weighed 9.49lb's and came in 20th.
